Even though Hug brought just two doubles teams consisting of four players, Carson High girls tennis coach Diane Baker didn't consider the match a total loss.
Actually, Baker didn't seem to mind. "It was good," Baker said. "I was able to play some of the younger players."
Carson rolled to a 45-0 win over Hug in its Sierra League opener on Thursday at Centennial Park.
Shannon Arnoldd and Emily Ortiz won 7-6 (7-5), Simone Kuckenmeister and Amber Whitworth won 6-2, Michelle Van Epps and Courtney Blankenship won 6-1, Desi Casci and Amy Milholland won 6-4, Katie Elverum and Edden Urrutia won 6-4 and Lisa Midboe and Tee Reymus won 6-0 for Carson.
Among the highlights was Elverum's serving. "Katie did serve well," Baker said. "She could be deadly with her serve."
Carson resumes play next week on Tuesday at Wooster and on Thursday at North Tahoe.
CARSON BOYS WIN
The Carson High boys tennis team rolled to a 45-0 win against short-handed Hug in a Sierra League match that was cut short by rain.
The action was limited to doubles matches only because Hug only had four players available, which gave the Senators an opportunity to rotate 18 different players into three rounds, according to coach Pat Houlihan.
Among the highlights were 6-0 victories by the teams of Josh Caron and Brandon Waterman, Andrew Roulard and Jeremy Grunert, Todd Crowell and Chris McEachern, Justin Menesini and Nick Rebholtz.
The Carson boys return to action with two matches at home next week, Tuesday against Wooster and Thursday against North Tahoe.
