The Karson Kruzers are coming, the craft vendors are ready, and 3,500 people are expected at the 15th annual Dayton Valley Days.

The weekend includes two parades, music, an art show and craft vendors. Lyon County Sheriff's Search and Rescue is organizing the event for the third year, said coordinator Patty Polish.

"The money is used to help Search and Rescue and for the restoration of old town Dayton," she said. "Last year, we wrote a check to help with the purchase of the Dayton Depot; and this year, we helped supply cables for the banners across Highway 50."

The parade, which centers around the theme "Why Soar With the Eagles When You Can Dine With the Buzzards," starts at 10 a.m. Saturday.

"We really try to make this a community, family-oriented event, and we try to do anything we can do to help the community," Polish said.

The street dance starts at 5 p.m. on Pike Street, featuring music by Stand Upright. The barbecue, which features pork tri-tip, potato salad and beans, costs $7.50.

"We have entertainment, cloggers and wagon rides," Polish said. KOH radio personality "Dave Preston will be broadcasting live from 8 a.m. to noon and KBUL from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday."

Dayton Valley Days started in 1989 as a fund-raiser for the artist-in- residence program at local schools. Four years later, the focus shifted to raising money to restore historic buildings downtown.

One of the town's biggest events, it showcases the part of town that dates to the mid-1800s.
