A Carson City landowner is planning to build a destination RV park and 9-hole golf course next to the municipal airport.

After a proposal to turn the area into an auto mall failed, Don Langson proceeded with the idea to turn a 42-acre parcel next to the airport into a place where visitors can park their RVs. He plans to add a water park and fishing lake.

Langson said he is negotiating with the airport authority to lease 20 acres of its property to build an executive golf course. AMES construction will ask the authority Wednesday for permission to remove a hill blocking the site of the new runway.

After the hill is removed, Langson said, he can begin building the golf course, but it might be two years before construction can begin.

"I think it's going to be a good thing," Langson said. "It's a learning course and a place for juniors, women and seniors to play on."

Langson planned the RV park after plans to develop a mobile home park fell through.
