Opal Pauline Hammerstaedt, 73, a Dayton resident for the past five years, died April 14, 2004, at her home. She was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Longlane, Mo., to Willard and Marie Christian Messick.

Before moving to Dayton, she lived in Redding, Calif.

She married Ken on May 6, 1950, in Reno.

Mrs. Hammerstaedt was a homemaker. She was an artist and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. She was a Protestant.

Among her survivors are her husband and sons Herb and Wayne, all of Dayton; sisters Ramona Hammerstaedt of Cottonwood, Calif., and Betty Sue Wosner of Klammath Falls, Ore.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

An inurnment service will be in Redding.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Crematory. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
