A head-on collision Saturday left both vehicles' drivers critically injured on Highway 88 south of Mottsville Lane in Gardnerville.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, at approximately 5 p.m., a Buick LeSabre driven by Johnny Cook, 46, of Carson City, was northbound when it drifted across the center line into the oncoming lane. It collided head-on with a Mazda Protege driven by Laura Banks, 19, of Gardnerville.

Both drivers were transported by CareFlight to Washoe Medical Center in Reno. Both Cook and Banks had broken legs and were in critical condition Sunday evening.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor to the accident.
