Leland C. Peterson, 82, a Mason Valley resident for the past 23 years, died April 16, 2004, at the South Lyon Medical Center. He was born Dec. 12, 1921, in Alta, Iowa, to Luzearn and Alma Brown Peterson. He was raised in Alta and graduated from Alta High School in 1938.

He married Marion W. Dudley in Orange, Texas, Feb. 11, 1946, and moved to San Diego.

Mr. Peterson started work as an electrician journeyman at the San Diego Naval Shipyard facility in May 1946. In 1964, he transferred to the March Air Force Base in Riverside, Calif. He moved to Guam in 1968, and moved back to the states in 1969. He developed, built, and operated Tower Park Marina on Highway 12 west of Lodi, Calif.

After he sold this business, he moved to South Lake Tahoe, where he sold real estate. He also started and operated Marbee Crafts at South Lake Tahoe. He moved to Hawaii in 1975, where he worked until his retirement in 1980. He then bought a small ranch in Mason Valley.

He served in the military from 1940 to June 19, 1945, and was discharged in Norfolk, Va.

Among his survivors are his wife; daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Michael Gualtieri; son, Michael; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A private family service was held.
