The Carson High boys and girls track teams had several impressive performances on Wednesday in a meet at CHS as they warmed up for their own invitational.
Carson competed along with South Tahoe's, Hug's and Douglas High's boys and girls in Wednesday's meet. Rite of Passage also competed in the boys meet.
Among the top performers for Carson were Shaylyn Tom, who had an impressive throw of 128 feet, a season best, to win the girls discus. Alex McAlman also had a personal best of 101 to take second in the discus. Tom placed second and McAlman was third in the shot put. "I think they had pretty good days," Carson coach Todd Ackerman said.
Stephen Waicul also had a season best throw of 149 feet in winning the boys discus. MIke Dittenber also had an impressive effort in clearing 6-3 in the high jump.
"I think with just a little bit of form work, his timing will get better," Ackerman said. "He's coming."
Other top performers for Carson were Matt Moore who won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.01 and Seth Carter, who won the 300 hurdles.
Amanda Benson, who's training for the heptathlon, won the 800 in 2:35. Benson will be among three Carson athletes who will compete in the Great Southwest Track Meet after the season in New Mexico in a meet that features athletes from all over the West Coast.
Tilor Smith, one of Northern Nevada's top long and triple jumpers, and Moore, one of Northern Nevada's top performers in the 300 hurdlers, will also compete in the meet.
"We didn't run a lot of kids," said Ackerman about Wednesday's meet as the Senators prepare for the Carson Invitational on Saturday.
"We ran a lot of our young kids, which was good for them. Most of our young kids ran the relays."
