Otis Burdette 'Deke' Shearer

Otis Burdette "Deke" Shearer, a resident of Carson City for the past 57 years, died April 22, 2004, at Manor Care in Reno. He was 87.

Mr. Shearer was born July 26, 1916, in Milltown, S.D., to George V. and Maud Wright Shearer.

Mr. Shearer attended Mitchell High School.

He married Shirley Phillips on Oct. 19, 1940, in Reno.

Mr. Shearer was a carpenter and worked in buildings and grounds for the state of Nevada. Prior to living in Carson City he lived in Fallon.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1945-46, and was past president for both the Carson City Men's Golf Club and the Ormsby Sportsmen's Association.

Mr. Shearer was preceded in death by a son Steven; a sister Peg; and brothers Alfred, Sidney and Fred.

Among his survivors are his wife of Carson City; daughter Jerry Ann FenKell of Winnemucca; brother Richard of Mitchell; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
