Carson City's Orion Ashmore and Diane Roberts combined to win the Mixed 4.0 Doubles championship during the Carson National Tennis Rating Program (NTPR) & Century Tournament on Sunday at Centennial Park.


Ashmore, a Nevada 4A State Tournament qualifier for Bishop Manogue High School last fall, and Roberts, the Carson High girls tennis coach, defeated Carson City's Jay and Laura Wiggins (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) and Diane Deming-Bo Mihaylou (5-7, 6-4, 3-0 before retiring due to injury) to win the round robin division.

The final match on Sunday was a closely contested three-set battle in which Richard Nolan of Reno and Karen Presson of Sparks defeated Reno's Marriela Durandegui and John Matthews 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to clinch the championship of the Mixed 3.5 Doubles division.


Matthews and Parnop Phadranavik combined to defeat Bob and Bradley Phelps in the Century Men's Doubles 6-3, 6-2.

Scott Oberly, a senior-to-be at Incline High School, defeated Arlie Miller of Sparks in the Men's 4.0 Singles final 6-3, 7-5.


Yvonne Ferguson of Reno defeated Johanna Bradford in the Women's 4.0 Singles final 6-3, 6-2. Bradford and Lynn Rapp combined to defeat Diane Deming and Jane Diamond in the Women's 4.0 Doubles final 6-0, 6-4.

Reno's Cynthia Birk and Sheri Faircloth won the Women's 3.0 Doubles round robin division. Fallon's Eleanor Lockwood and Bill Slentz were the Century Mixed Doubles round robin champions.


The Carson City Tennis Club's three-day tournament attracted 55 participants to Centennial Park.
