An 18-pound King Salmon on last cast at Feather River

• BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:

Intake No. 2: Reports of limits with Power Bait or nightcrawlers were numerous.

Good fishing with Stingers and Thomas Buoyants.

North Lake: Reports of nice stringers with Power Bait or worms.

Trout Teasers and mealworms were fantastic.

Sabrina Lake: SCE has begun draining Sabrina and it is about at the bottom of the boat ramp now.

South Lake: Fishing slowed down a little this week but anglers are still bringing in some nice fish.

DFG and Alpers both stocked on Thursday, so we are anticipating a pickup this week.

We are on line for another stocking by both this week.

Trolling has been good with Cowbells and nightcrawler or by going deep (about 9 colors on leadcore) with a Yo-Zuri 3D minnow.

A 7-pound, 10-ounce Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout on a Thomas Buoyant lure.

A 7-pound, 4-ounce Alpers on a silver Super Duper at the back of the lake.

Weir Pond: Was stocked heavy this week and the results are good for fly fishing with olive Matukas and Sierra Bright Dots leading the way.

Bishop Creek: Nightcrawlers and Power Bait are doing great.

Small Thomas Buoyant or Roostertail lures are productive in small pools.

• BISHOP CREEK AREA, CALIF:

Sabrina Lake: Patti Apted of the Lake Sabrina Boat Landing (760-873-7425): The fish have gone deep due to the lake dropping and the water temperature rising.

Lead cored fishing has been successful at 4-5 colors using worms, Needlefish, Thomas Buoyant or Super Duper lures.

This week we expect a stocking of lunkers from Alpers Hatchery.

• BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said both Upper and Lower were good.

• BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707) said, "It is still doing OK. The marina is closed because the water is too low to launch a boat there, but you can still launch smaller boats from shore at places like "The Bath Tub."

The best fishing is still from boats that are anchored and stillfishing with Power Bait or nightcrawlers. Some of the boaters are casting small lures.

• CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said it did well on Saturday and on Sunday morning, until the wind came up.

• WEST CARSON RIVER AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported, " It was pretty quiet. The water is low and clear."

• CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Will open Sept. 1.

• CRATER LAKE, CALIF. (Near Kit Carson Pass): Doug Busey of Douglas County reported that he caught and released a total 26 brook trout while using flies or small lures. The largest brookie was 9 inches.

• DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270): "It is really slow, up here.

The trolling is very slow. One angler caught 5 fish, yesterday, between 2 and 3 p.m.

The shore fishing is slow, but best in the mornings at Mallard and Honker Coves.

The water temp is 73 degrees at the surface.

This morning (Monday), a young girl brought in a 33-inch pike that weighed over 10 pounds.

• FEATHER RIVER AT OROVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported 6,500 CFS is the water release on the Feather.

Fishing last week for Kings was fair, up and down.

When caught, chrome king salmon are bright fish, 12-25 lbs., occasional 30 pounder.

Back-trolling Flatfish lures, green & gold, T-50's.

Starting to catch a few on roe.

Fishing between Oroville and Gridley.

• In addition, Chuck Van Hise of Carson City reported that he, Randy Dunn and Ed Birmingham fished from shore over the weekend in the Oroville area. Birmingham caught the only fish of the trip, when he caught an 18-pound King Salmon on his last cast of the day.

• HEENAN LAKE, CALIF: Will open Sept. 3.

• INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby said, "There were lots of fishermen over the weekend, but not much action.

The surface temp of the water is pretty high. I would rate it as only fair to poor."

• Summit Lake (above Indian Creek): There is hardly any water left. It has all evaporated.

• LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): It is certainly hot right now. It was 102 yesterday (Monday) and that is uncomfortable.

There are not very many fishermen and no reports due to this darn hot weather.

The reservoir has 143,000 acre feet and is still dropping. It is at about half capacity.

We need a break in the weather for the fishing to improve.

• RED LAKE CALIF: Dave Kirby said there were limits with worms, just past the dam on the highway side.

• SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) sent in this report:

Redding to Anderson: Water flow is 12,500 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is still great with 15-25 fish days. Catching and releasing wild, trophy rainbows, up to 6 pounds. Using Micro Mayfly and Fox's Pupahs.

Red Bluff: Fishing for kings is still a bit slow. Catching a few salmon. Bright kings.

Counts passing the Diversion Dam are increasing.

More salmon making their way up river.

Watch for fishing to improve as the weeks pass.

Looks like a late run.

• SCOTT'S LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said that there have been plenty of limits of small brookies, but they are small, all head and no body.

• LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "Just like last week's report: Business has been great. I've had a full boat every day and on a lot of the days, I also have a second charter.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

The fishing has been very consistent, but nothing super big.

I troll 250-550 feet deep in the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 150-300 feet deep in the Dollar Point, Cal Neva Point and Tahoe City areas.

• LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling in the Camp Richardson and Baldwin Beach areas with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 160-280 feet deep.

• LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said that Cave Rock Shelf has been producing mostly smaller Macks.

Jiggers are doing the best.

The Macks are small, running 1-3 pounds with nothing over 5 pounds.

• TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Lower Twin: Carey at the Twin Lakes Resort (760-932-7751): "Fishing is totally crazy!

Limits to 1 pound is the norm and big ones are showing up, pretty regularly.

Rapalas, Hot Shots, Super Dupers and Power Bait are the best bet.

A 6.75 pound rainbow with a Super Duper, a 6-pound, 6-ounce rainbow on Power Bait, a 6 pound rainbow with a Hot Shot, a 5-pound, 7-ounce rainbow on Power Bait and a 4.75 pound rainbow with a Rapala."

Upper Twin: Mono Village (760-932-7071) reported:

An 8.75 pound rainbow on a red/gold Thomas Buoyant lure, a 7-pound, 6-ounce rainbow on rainbow Power Bait and a 6-pound rainbow on a Bug-eyed Woolly Bugger fly.

Lots of pan-sized fish coming in on nightcrawlers, as well as on orange, green and yellow Power Bait.

Buckeye Creek: Jim Reid reported, "It is doing good with small spinners or flies. They must have put a bunch of fish in there."

Robinson Creek: No report.

• VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Carolyn Webb at the Virginia Lakes Resort reported: "This last week has been a great week of Alpers, even with the full moon looming overhead.

A real crowd pleasing week.

What a week of wonders.

A 3-pound, 9-ounce rainbow on Power Bait, a 3-pounder on an olive Woolly Bugger fly, a 3-pounder on rainbow Power Bait and a 2-pound, 6-ounce rainbow on a Pins Minnow.

Limits, limits and more limits are on the menu, with nary a mosquito on the horizon.

Backcountry lakes are doing well on small Black Ants, Joe's Hoppers and Stimulators.

Lures for these lakes are small Daredevil, gold Super Dupers and the infamous Black Fury Mepps."

• WALKER RIVERS:

East Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid said that the water is 69-70 degrees coming out of the dam, the water flow is 132 CFS, the weeds are growing and the fishing is still pretty good. They are using dry flies, mostly Caddis.

West Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid said it is still doing pretty good for anglers using bait or small spinners or flies.

• WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "The weather is beautiful and the barometer is down.

I think coming out of the full moon, the hot weather and the low barometer are affecting the fishing.

Fishing at the reservoir has been on the slow side all week.

Two of my employees fished late night until 2 in the morning and only caught 4 Perch.

Both the Bruneau River and the Owyhee River (below the dam) have been red hot.

The fishermen are using a Colorado Spinner with a fly behind it.

If you fish the Owyhee River, watch out for rattlesnakes. They are all over that area.
