The Dayton boys basketball team gave Northern 4A power Hug all it could handle before the Hawks pulled away at the end for a 71-50 win on Thursday at the NevadaPrep.com Tournament in Winnemucca.

The Northern 3A school trailed by as many as 20 points, but was able to cut the deficit to six points with three minutes left in the game before Hug's pressure and depth allowed it to pull away.

"I was very happy with the way our team played," Dayton coach Rob Streeter said. "I thought they played extremely hard.

"They just kind of wore us down. I'm extremely proud of the way our kids battled all the way through."

Danny Hopper scored 16 points for Dayton, who continues play in the tournament at 6 p.m. today against Rite of Passage.
