FALLON - The child of a Fallon Navy family was positively diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) on Dec. 18 at Children's Hospital in Oakland, Calif.

The 28-month old boy became ill earlier this month and was initially examined by doctors at Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon and the Naval Air Station Branch Medical Clinic. The child returned to the hospital where further examination warranted taking the child by Care Flight to Children's Hospital on Dec. 16.

The child's mother and siblings have been living in Churchill County with extended family members while the father, a U.S. Navy Hospital Corpsman, has been enrolled in Surgical Technician School in San Diego.

Base officials are withholding the family's identity to preserve privacy.

Fallon has not had a leukemia case in more than two years. Since 1997, 16 children have been diagnosed with leukemia and three have died.
