Yerington wins tourney title

YERINGTON 61, SILVER STAGE 50


The Yerington boys basketball team concluded a run in which it has played 13 games in 21 days by winning the title of the Winter Games Tournament at Rite of Passage.


Dylan Johnson scored 16 points and Ryan Rife added 12 points as both were named to the all-tournament team for the Lions (12-1, 3-0).


Yerington led 16-11 after one quarter and 38-24 at halftime. "It was just a hard fought game," Yerington coach Daron Wildermuth said. "It's a good way to go into the break."


CARSON JVS GIRLS 40, SPANISH SPRINGS 24


Krista Casci scored 10 points, Abby Rankl had seven points, Megan Kilty, Lydia Peri and Brittany DeRosa all had six points, Whitney Hoote had three points and Sarah Evans added two points in the win for the Carson junior varsity girls basketball team (5-0) at the State Farm Holiday Classic. Carson plays at 3:45 p.m. today against Reno High at McQueen.


CARSON FRESHMEN GIRLS 48, NORTH VALLEYS 38


Morgan Nuckolls scored 13 points and Alyssa Owens had 10 points and six steals in the win for the Carson freshmen girls basketball team in the State Farm Holiday Classic. Carson advanced to a third round game at 3:45 p.m. today against Reed at McQueen.


Also for Carson, Kayla Sanchez scored nine points, Hannah Nystrom had six points, Kelli Brothers had four points, Amanda Dines had two points and six steals and Taylor Stokes and Erin Johansen each added two points.
