Sheila Harris Mitchell, 72, a Gardnerville resident for the past year, died Dec. 15, 2004, at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center of a brain tumor. She was born Sept. 17, 1932, in Northhampton, England, to William C. and Elsie E. Ager Harris.

She attended elementary school in England, El Paso Community College in Texas and completed her masters degree at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio in 1982.

She married Leonard F. Mitchell III June 18, 1955, in England.

She worked for the Texas Department of Social Services for 15 years before retiring as supervisor for Children Protective Services. After moving to Montana, she volunteered at the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital and the Bozeman Senior Center. She was a member of the Carson City Senior Citizens Center, the Bozeman Senior Citizen Center, RSVP and IFA 72. She was a Protestant.

Among her survivors are her husband of Gardnerville; children Gary A. of El Paso, Shani A. and Marty Dues of Minden, Michael A. and Irma of El Paso, Shari A. and Russell Maresh of Jacksonville, N.C.; grandchildren Erynne Dues, Ian Dues and Adrienne Dues of Bozeman, Wesley and Wade Maresh of Jacksonville and Marissa, Stephanie and Joey Morales of Phoenix; three great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Tina Mitchell of California; sister-in-law Pat of Florida; and many other family members.

Cremation will be at FitzHenry's.

A memorial and celebration of life will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barton Hospice, 1617 Water St., Suite K, Minden, NV 89423; or to a charity of choice.

FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
