A travel trailer burned to the ground on Blueberry Street in Silver Springs about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The trailer was being used to store tools, according to Central Lyon County Fire Chief John Gillenwater.

Fire units from Silver Springs, Stagecoach, Fernley and Dayton responded to the blaze.

Silver Springs resident Buddy Adair said he arrived at the fire before the fire department.

"The guy I work with pointed out the plume and I keep a camera in the truck," Adair said. "It was already burned halfway down by the time we got there. It was gone before the fire department got there."

The owner of the trailer tried to go back inside while it was on fire, Adair said.

"He tried to go back in, but he came back out when he got too much smoke," Adair said.

The trailer was located on the eastern-most reaches of Silver Springs, close to Lake Lahontan.

Gillenwater said the owner refused treatment for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire was not known. It was the third small trailer fire along Lake Lahontan in the past three weeks. Two fires were handled by Churchill County during Christmas week.
