David F. McDonald, 78, of Fort Bragg, Calif., died Jan. 8, 2004, there of cancer. He was born April 7, 1925, in Houston to John and Rilla McDonald.

After graduating from Churchill County High School, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II.

He obtained a bachelor of science degree in physical education from Rice University and a master's of education from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Mr. McDonald spent 32 years in education. He taught in Dayton, Smith Valley and Carson City. He was Carson High School's varsity basketball coach and vice principal.

After his retirement, he enjoyed gardening and was an avid deep-sea salmon fisherman.

Among his survivors are his wife, Mary; sons William of Orion, Ill., and Dr. Jay D. Marriage of Minden; daughters Sharla M. Satterfield of Quincy, Calif., and Julietta Forbes of Reno; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
