Wild youth hockey team splits games

The High Sierra Wild Pee Wee B team split two games over the weekend in NORCAL youth hockey action.

High Sierra lost to the Santa Rosa Flyers 5-1 and beat the San Francisco Saber Cats 13-0. High Sierra is now 4-3-1 in the regular season and stands in fourth in the nine-team league.

Santa Rosa is dominating the division with an 8-1 mark. High Sierra started strong against San Rosa, taking a 1-0 lead on a goal by Jimmy Thorngren that was assisted by Payton Guttry and Minden's Devyn Hotho. Goalie Ty O'Neil stopped 28 of 33 shots.

Against San Francisco, Goalie Matt Scherer of Carson City recorded the shutout. Cooper Stanley had two goals and four assists and Paul Amundson, Gardnerville's Chris Rogusky and Thorngren all added two goals. Niko Nakamura had a goal and three assists and Guttry added a goal and two assists.

Thirteen players contributed a goal or an assist. Gardnerville's Angela Nelson, Jon Betts, Brandon Rader, Cameron Fields, Carson City's Jonathan Singer and Minden's Austin Hoyt led the defense.

The Wild consists of players from Carson City, South Tahoe, Gardnerville, Minden, Reno, Sparks and Truckee.
