The Galena High boys basketball team warmed up for today's showdown with Elko with an impressive 54-26 win over Fallon on Friday at home.

Fallon was coming off an impressive win at home against McQueen in the High Desert League. But the Greenwave were no match for the Grizzlies, who held Fallon to three points in each of the second and third quarters to take a 35-15 lead.

"I thought we caught them on a good night," Galena coach Tom Maurer said. "Obviously we played up to defensive expecatations. Offensively I don't know."

Derek Lorenzen, who scored 14 points, continued to do an outstanding job of running Galena's offense as nine players scored. "He did a good job again of distributing the ball," Maurer said.

Bobby Contreras, who scored eight of his 13 points in the first half, had an outstanding all-around first half in scoring, rebounding and defense, Maurer said. "I thought Bobby Contreras had an unbelievable first half," he said.

Galena hosts Elko at 5 p.m. today. Elko is led by Ryan Klekas and has an impressive win over Reed at home. The last two times Galena and Elko has played, Klekas has scored 35 and 37 points.

"Obviously we would like to settle the score," Maurer said. "We've got to obviously get these games at home."

Dayton trailed 24-20 at halftime and 38-37 after three quarters before shutting down Spring Creek in the final period.

"He did a good job for us," said Dayton coach Rob Streeter about Wood. "He kind of sparked a second half comeback for us. We really stepped up our defensive intensity in the fourth quarter."

All 10 players for Dayton scored. Freshman Travis Wood also played well for Dayton. Against North Tahoe, Adam Diament scored 13 points and Bowman added 12 points.
