A celebration of life for Alva Richard McClelland, 76, a Dayton resident for the past year, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Dayton Valley Community Church with Pastor Jim Richardson officiating.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Diamond Crest Cemetery in Susanville, Calif.
Mr. McClelland died July 7, 2004, at his home. He was born Jan. 20, 1928, in West Virginia, to J.W. and Emma G. Vanderhoff McClelland.
Before moving to Dayton, he lived in Janesville, Calif.
He married Betty Childers May 27, 1972, in Carson City.
Mr. McClelland retired after 20 years from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer. He served in World War II, Vietnam and the Korean Conflict.
He then went to work for U.C. hospital in San Francisco as a stationary engineer and retired after 20 years. He enjoyed bird watching, flowers, gardening and fishing.
Among his survivors are his wife and son Wayne Powers, both of Dayton and Leary Powers of Lovelock; daughter and son-in-law Diana and Norm Malekos of Dayton; grandchildren Steven, Jeremy, Amy and Natalie Malekos, Shauna Poe, Greg and Mathew Powers, Kristina Qualls and Melanie Cooper and 13 great-grandchildren.
Capitol City Cremation & Burial Society is in charge of arrangements.
