Southeast Carson residents can get a close look at plans for the southern half of the bypass this afternoon and evening at the Fuji Park Exhibition Hall.
"We've made a number of decisions on vertical alignment and other issues," said Jim Gallegos, project engineer for the Nevada Department of Transportation.
He said plans now call for an "at grade" freeway. Snyder will pass over the freeway, then the bypass will rise to pass over Carson Street at its south end.
Gallegos said engineers have also made preliminary determinations where they will build soundwalls and done some work on how a multi-purpose path will pass through the freeway corridor and connect to Butti Way near Fifth Street.
There will be a more detailed description of the interchange at Fairview and grade crossings at Fifth Street, Koontz Lane, Clearview in addition to Snyder and the Spooner junction. And there are displays laying out bike lanes, pedestrian areas and other features.
"And we've been doing work on the aesthetic treatment using native vegetation and boulders."
He said all the concepts will be presented in maps and illustrations at the public open house from 4-7 p.m. Gallegos described the format as an open forum, saying interested residents will be able to talk one-on-one with NDOT engineers and officials.
He said all members of the public are invited to submit written comments on the project either the meeting or afterward. Comments will be accepted until the end of business July 30.

The design is for the second phase of the bypass from Highway 50 East south and is divided into two projects. The first will extend the northern bypass now under construction from Highway 50 to Fairview Drive. The second will complete the freeway to Highway 395 and Highway 50 at Spooner Junction.
Together they will cost about $165 million, bringing the total cost of the bypass from Arrowhead Drive at the north end of Eagle Valley to Spooner to more than $300 million.
Of that total, Gallegos said Carson City is contributing about $35 million.
NDOT Public Information Officer Scott Magruder said they hope to go to bid on the stretch of freeway from Highway 50 East to Fairview in February 2006 and the final stretch two years later. The plan is to finish the project in 2010.
