Staff Reports

A walk-off home run in the bottom of the sixth inning sent Carson American to a heartbreaking loss in the District Little League 11-Year-Old Tournament. Sparks National ended pool play 4-0.

Had Carson American won, it would have had a chance to finish in first in the pool. Carson, which has clinched a berth into the quarterfinals, will conclued pool play at 4 p.m. today at the Washoe Little League complex in South Reno against 3-0 Reno National.

Carson outhit Sparks National 8-5, but both teams played outstanding defense throughout the game and Sparks made outstanding defensive plays when it needed to stop several Carson threats.

Carson was also hurt by a controversial sequence in the sixth when Matt Cooper led off with a double. It appeared that Jeff Davies had walked on a passed ball and Cooper scored on an overthrow.

Davies also came all the way around to score on another overthrow to apparently give Carson a 3-1 lead. But the play was ruled dead after it was decided that Davies had fouled the ball off.

Austin Law gave Carson an outstanding effort on the mound, pitching a complete game. He allowed one earned run and struck out seven.

Carson took a 1-0 lead when Connor Van Dyck singled and scored. Sparks scored in the third on a walk and three passed balls to tie the game 1-1.

Adam Whitt went 2-for-3 with a double, Cooper was 2-for-2, Blueberg was 2-for-3 and Zach Berg added a hit for Carson.
