W. Carson River, Calif. yields a 7.5 pound rainbow trout

BLUE LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said both lakes were pretty quiet over the weekend due to the hot weather and the full moon.

One couple reported that they fished all day Saturday and all day Sunday, and only caught a couple of fish.

Go prepared with repellent for mosquitoes.

BRIDGEPORT RESERVOIR, CALIF: Jim Reid of Ken's Sporting Goods Store (760-932-7707) said, "It is still doing OK. The marina is closed because the water is too low to launch a boat there, but you can still launch smaller boats from shore.

The best fishing is still from boats that are anchored and stillfishing with Power Bait or nightcrawlers. Some of the boaters are casting small lures.

BURNSIDE LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said that Calif. F&G will not plant the lake this year.

CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby said it was pretty quiet over the weekend due to the hot weather and the full moon.

EAST CARSON RIVER AREA, CALIF: Brad Davis at the Carson River Resort (877-694-2229) reported the fishing has slowed down due to the full moon.

Kevin Huber of Salinas caught a 4 pounder on a nightcrawler.

Ed Wright caught a 4-pound, 11-ounce rainbow and a 4.5 pound rainbow, both on nightcrawlers.

WEST CARSON RIVER AREA, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported, " It was pretty quiet. The Blue Moon and the hot weather just killed us this weekend.

The only report that I have for you is John Kilmer of Gardnerville caught a 7.5 pound rainbow on a nightcrawler, just above Crystal Springs."

CATNIP RESERVOIR IN NORTHERN WASHOE COUNTY: Will open Sept. 1.

CONVICT LAKE, CALIF: Susie Greilich at Kittridge Sporting Goods Store in Mammoth at (760) 934-7566 said they are catching limits from the south shore with Salmon eggs.

CONVICT CREEK: Using Panther/Martin lures or Salmon eggs.

CROWLEY LAKE, CALIF: Special regs. began on Aug. 1: No bait.

Catching nice rainbows and browns, up to 21 inches and 3 pounds.

DAVIS LAKE, CALIF: Sara at the Grizzly Store and Resort (530-832-0270): "We got the Dog Days of Summer, up here. It is dead.

Trolling is very slow.

Shore fishing is slow, but best in a.m. at Mallard Cove or Honker Cove.

Water temp is 69-73 degrees at surface."

FEATHER RIVER AT OROVILLE, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero reported 6,500 CFS is the water release on the Feather.

Fishing last week was fair, up and down.

When caught, chrome king salmon are bright fish, 12-25 lbs., occasional 30 pounder.

Back-trolling Flatfish lures, green & gold, T-50's.

Starting to catch a few on roe.

Fishing between Oroville and Gridley.

FRENCHMAN RESERVOIR, CALIF: Wiggin's Trading Post at Chilcoot, Calif. (530-993-4683): Hot weather and the full moon has slowed up the bite.

There are a few limits, here and there, but for the most part you really have to work for them.

Fish early or late.

Use Power Bait or worms.

Catfish are really biting at Turkey Point.

GREEN CREEK, CALIF: Jim Reid said that it is still good for lots of Mosquitos and a mix of mostly brookies, some planted rainbows and a few browns.

HEENAN LAKE, CALIF: Will open Sept. 3.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: The algae is blooming, the fishing has slowed down, the water is getting warmer and the fish are deep.

Grant Lake: Fabulous fishing. A little low, but fishing is great.

Gull Lake: Good fishing, Troll with 5 colors of leadcore and red/gold Thomas Buoyant lures.

June Lake: Troll 7 colors of leadcore with Thomas Buoyant or Needlefish lures. Catching 5 & 6 pounders.

Silver Lake: Recently planted with Alpers Trophy Rainbow Trout.

Rush Creek: Nightcrawlers continue to catch browns. Morning is best bite.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750): Fishing is very slow.

The lake is going down and the water level is dropping.

There are lots of speed boats, jet skis, wake boards, whatever.

They are scaring the fish and the weather has been really hot.

My kids fished all weekend and got skunked.

MAMMOTH LAKES AREA, CALIF: Susie Greilich said:

George Lake: Inflated nightcrawlers.

Mamie Lake: Use Thomas Buoyant lures.

Mary Lake: Fish are deep. Troll with a Bikini Needlefish lure.

Twin Lakes: A 4-pound, 4-ounce rainbow on an olive Woolly Bugger fly.

Mammoth Creek: Use Salmon eggs or Roostertail lures.

Upstream: Use Olive Matuka flies.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV: Is closed to cutthroat trout fishing until Oct. 1.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing, Redding, Calif. (800-670-4448) sent in this report:

Redding to Anderson: Water flow is 14,500 CFS.

Fly fishing for rainbow trout is still great with 15-30 fish days. Catching and releasing wild, trophy rainbows, up to 6 pounds. Using Pheasant Tails, Prince Nymphs, Micro Mayfly and Fox's Pupahs.

Red Bluff: Fishing for kings is still a bit slow. Catching a few salmon. Bright kings.

Counts passing the Diversion Dam are increasing.

More salmon making their way up river.

Watch for fishing to improve as the weeks pass.

August 1st, marked opening day of the Anderson area of the Sacto River, also well known as the Barge Hole- Balls Ferry area. Picked up a few salmon opening day.

In addition, Andy Moore of Carson City reported that he and his partner caught and released a total of 10 King Salmon, up to 25 pounds.

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "Business has been great. I've had a full boat every day and on a lot of the days, I also have a second charter.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning and I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones.

The fishing has been very consistent, but nothing super big.

I troll 250-550 feet deep in the deep-water area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 150-300 feet deep in the Dollar Point, Cal Neva Point and Tahoe City areas.

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said he is trolling in the Camp Richardson and Baldwin Beach areas with a short leader, Herring Dodger flasher blades and live minnows at 160-280 feet deep.

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said that Cave Rock Shelf has been producing mostly smaller Macks.

Jiggers are doing the best.

The Macks are small, running 1-3 pounds with nothing over 5 pounds.

TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550): I don't have a report.

Fishing is just dead. No one is catching any fish.

The lake level is so low that we will close our boat launch this weekend.

TWIN LAKES, CALIF. AREA:

Upper Twin: Mono Village (760-932-7071) reported:

Stillfishing seems to be working best using nightcrawlers.

Lots of limits coming in.

A 4-pound, 14-ounce rainbow was caught by Tony Valdes of Gardnerville with a rainbow-colored Kastmaster lure.

A 3-pound, 14-ounce rainbow on a red/gold Mepps spinner for a woman from Oakland.

Norm Annett released 50 rainbows (2-5 pounds) from his private ponds with more going in this week.

VIRGINIA LAKES, CALIF. AREA: Carolyn Webb at the Virginia Lakes Resort reported the warm weather has sent the fish deep into cooler water.

Inflated nightcrawlers or live grasshoppers have been the better way to go for brookies in the 12-15 inch range.

Kastmaster, Hot Shot, Super Duper and some Rapala lures have also done well.

WALKER RIVERS:

East Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid said that the water is 69 degrees coming out of the dam, the water flow is 166 CFS, the weeds are growing and the fishing is tough.

West Walker (Calif.): Jim Reid said it is still doing good, with anglers using bait or small spinners or flies.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 said, "The weather is beautiful. It's been cloudy and we had a big rain, just south of us. It has not hit 95 degrees this year.

Saturday night, four fishermen including Brian McGee and Dennis Ohmstead of the Resort caught 5 German Browns (14-24 inches), 5 Cutbows (14-19 inches), 37 Perch (8-12 inches) and 8 Channel Catfish (3-11 pounds). Not too bad for a night's fishing.

We've been told that the lake will be a little higher than it was last year."

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK AREA, CALIF: Susie Greilich said:

Saddlebag Lake: Shore fishing is great with worms. Lots of limits.

Troll with Needlefish lures or flashers and worms.

Lee Vining Creek: Small Roostertail or Panther/Martin lures.
