A memorial service for Evelyn Muriel Rumph, a Carson City resident for the past 20 years, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church in Carson City.

Mrs. Rumph died June 10, 2004, in Carson City. She was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Lowell, Mass., to Alonzo H. and Evelyn Craven Russell.

She grew up and attended schools in North Chelmsford, Mass..

She lived in New England for 25 years before moving to California, where she lived in La Canada and Glendale for more than 35 years before moving to Carson City in 1984.

She attended the University of Massachusetts in Framingham, Mass., graduating in 1947 with a bachelor of science degree in education.

After a three-year internship at Newton Wellesley Hospital, she became a member of the American Dietetic Association. After moving to California, she joined the California Dietetic Association. She worked at St. Luke's Hospital in Pasadena, worked at the California Hospital Medical Center for 12 years as a clinical dietitian then transferred to the California Hospital School of Nursing, where she taught for six years until her retirement in 1984.

In Carson City, she enjoyed many church activities, including the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Southern California Alumni Club of Framingham College and was its president and secretary. She belonged to the Northern Nevada Dietetic Association and received a commendation in November 2002 for 50 years of service.

Among her survivors are her stepdaughters Leslie Rumph of Reno and Becky and Adony Beniares of Sunnyvale, Calif.; sister-in-law, June Rumph Edelstein of Stafford, Va.; three nieces; two nephews; four grand-nephews; two grand-nieces; and many cousins.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Calif.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church of Carson City.
