Pincock runs well at NCAA qualifier

Staff Reports

Even though he fell short in his bid to earn a ticket to the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships next week, George Pincock had a highly successful day running for the University of Colorado during the "Last Chance Meet" held Saturday at the University of Washington in Seattle.

Pincock, a 2003 Carson High School graduate and now a freshman at Colorado, won both the 200- and 400-meter races during the meet, one of eight last chance meets held across the country to give collegiate athletes a final chance to improve their marks before the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Pincock won the 400 in a personal record time of 48.07 seconds and he came back to win the 200 in 21.83, his second fastest time ever. Pincock showed strength and durability in his double because the two races were held about 15 minutes apart.

Qualifying for the NCAA meet, which will be held next Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark., was no small achievement. In the 400, Pincock would have needed to run 46.15 for an automatic berth and 47.25 for a provisional berth. In the 200, the qualifying marks were 20.85 and 21.25.

Meanwhile, the University of Nevada's Kali Baker ran a provisional qualifying and personal record time of 4:46.30 in the mile, good for fifth-place. In the same race, Caitlin Prunty of Eastern Washington and a former state champion for Carson High, finished 17th in a time of 5:03.66.
