Doug Busey of Douglas County reported that he fished for three hours on Sunday near the dam. He caught a 20-inch Mackinaw trout with a rubber jig (smeared with Smelly Jelly) that resembles a minnow.

Busey reported that the ice is about 5 feet thick or thicker and he had to use an extension on his auger to reach the water.

He also said that the weather was nice and warm and that the lake's water level has dropped.

The weather has been beautiful.

The fish seem to have moved in closer to shore with the warmer weather.

The fly fishermen have been doing very good at "The Nets."

George (Pyramid Lake Charters) has been averaging 15-20 fish per trip, up to 24 inches. He has been trolling with Apex lures.

On the 5th, Eugenio Saratea of Reno caught 14-pound, 7-ounce cutthroat on a black Woolly Worm fly tied by George.

On the 7th, Cheryl Davis of Reno caught an 8-pound, 15-ounce Cutt from a boat.

On the 8th, Bill Anderson of Reno caught a 9-pound, 10-ounce cutthroat.

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "Fishing has been good to excellent.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones. Catching mostly average size fish, with nothing big.

I'm trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

• LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "Now is the time to go fishing at North Shore.

The weather and the fishing are both excellent.

I've been trolling at depths of 210-380 feet at Agate Bay, Cal-Neva Point and Dollar Point, with Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

We're catching lots of Macks, mostly in the 3-6 pound class with several in the 6-11 pound range.

• LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said: "It's good in front of Camp Richardson at 220 feet deep with a short leader and Dodgers and live minnows.

We're catching lots of Macks, mostly in the 2-5 pound class with several in the 6-9 pound range.

There is good Mack action on the Ski Run Mound if you like to jig.

Eagle Point has been very good for toplining in 20-25 feet of water with a No. 11, black/gold Rapala lure. Watch out for the rocks when you're in that shallow water."

• LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis said, "The boat ramp at Cave Rock is still the best place on the entire lake to launch your boat at the present time.

The Cave Rock Shelf has been producing Macks for us at 160-240 feet. They are smaller and average 2-5 pounds.

Toplining has been good at places like Deadman Point, Sand Harbor, Skunk Harbor, Skyland Point and Zephyr Point.

Last week, we got an 8-pound brown and a 6-pound brown.

Our catches are about 1/3 rainbows, 1/3 browns and 1/3 Mackinaws.

When toplining, use a small Sepps flasher with either a live minnow or small Rapala lures.

We also caught several rainbows, up to 4 pounds, with silver flasher blades and worms.

Troll slow in 25 feet of water, so the flashers just barely flutter. For best results use a No. 11, black/silver Rapala lure and watch out for the rocks."

• TOPAZ LAKE: Chuck Fields of the Topaz Lake Marina (775-266-3550) said, "The fish were really biting last week and over the weekend, with lots of limits by boaters.

The warmer weather has brought the trout up closer to the surface.

The fish were being caught on Rapala or Needlefish lures, behind silver flasher blades.

The boaters were trolling in the top 10-20 feet of water, out toward the center of the lake.

The best bite was along the south shore and along the west shore, trolling by the highway.

Last week's biggest fish was a 2.75 pound (17.5 inches) rainbow.

On Sunday, Frank McConnell of Gardnerville caught a $100 tagged fish.

So far, this season, fishermen have caught 16 of the 50 tagged trout. There are still lots of tagged fish worth all the way from $200 to $1,000."
