A man who was on the state's 10 most wanted list in 1998 for failure to pay child support is in the Churchill County Jail awaiting a court appearance.

Jerome B. Voss, 56, allegedly owes $74,484 in back child support for his two children, now aged 27 and 25.

Voss is accused of not paying child support ordered by a Colorado court in 1983 as part of a divorce.

Court documents say Voss has refused to make regular payments.

At some point, the children lived in Churchill County, and the Nevada Attorney General's Office was looking for Voss. A warrant for his arrest was issued in 1997, and Voss' name and picture were on a poster of the 10 most-wanted Nevada deadbeat dads.

Deputy District Attorney Brandi Jensen said Voss was arrested in Washington state on the Churchill County warrant. He was taken into custody Feb. 6, and transported to Fallon by an extradition service.

Soon after he was booked into the Churchill County Jail, Voss was taken to the state's mental health facility, Lake's Crossing in Sparks, for an emergency admission after threatening to kill himself, court records state.

He appeared in court last week after being released, but defense attorney Paul Drakulich said a doctor's report hadn't been received. When Drakulich asked that his client be released from custody until the report is available, he learned Voss has a no-bail felony warrant from Tennessee.

He is accused of violating probation in 1990. Voss was placed on probation after a conviction for grand larceny, Jensen said. She has contacted Tennessee authorities, who will deal with Voss after the Churchill County case has been handled.

"The DA's office has no intention of letting Mr. Voss out of jail for any reason," said Jensen.
