CAPLES LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby of the Woodfords Station (530-694-2930) said that the lake is still iced over, but has some open water around the edge. In addition, they are drawing water from the lake which means that there is now a gap between the thinning layer of ice and the water below. He recommends not to venture out onto the ice.

INDIAN CREEK RESERVOIR. CALIF: Dave Kirby reported Saturday was a good day and Sunday was quiet due to about 1.5 hour of rainfall.

On Saturday, there were about 25-30 fishermen.

Steve and Garrett Damico of Carson City caught their limits of rainbows (up to 2.5 pounds) with worms and Power Bait.

The shore fishermen were using mostly Power Bait or inflated worms, just off the bottom.

Fly fishermen were using Woolly Bugger flies.

Spincasters were using small lures.

Summit Lake (above Indian Creek Reservoir): Dave Kirby said he had no reports but saw about a half dozen vehicles parked in the parking area.

JUNE LAKE LOOP AREA, CALIF: Closed.

KINNEY RESERVOIR, CALIF: No report.

KNOTT CREEK RESERVOIR, NEV: Will open June 12.

LOWER KINNEY LAKE: No report.

LAHONTAN RESERVOIR, NEV: Missy Swain at Burke's Market at Silver Springs (775-577-2750) said, "The reservoir has now over 220,000 acres feet of water and is still rising.

The weather last week was funky but it was beautiful over the weekend.

It's ideal fishing right now.

Beach No. 4 is going strong for Walleye, Wipers and White Bass.

Mike Gyromathy (hometown unknown) caught a 7.5 pound Walleye on a minnow at Beach No. 4.

Beach No. 10 is producing catfish at night but be careful of the sand and don't get stuck."

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:

Lawrence Quadrio of the Gillys Sporting Goods Store in Sparks (358-6113) reported that the fishing is pretty good now.

The shore fishing is better than the boaters.

Most fish are in the slot size and are being caught at the usual places.

The Nets is the current hot spot for fly fishermen with floating lines and Nymphs.

PYRAMID LAKE, NEV:

A representative of the Pyramid Lake Store (775-476-0555) said, "Fishing has been fair, some hot days, some cold days.

Morning and evening fishing has been the best.

The fish are in their spawning mode right now.

George (George Molino of Pyramid Lake Charters) was out a couple of times last week. They were catching 6-12 fish per trip.

RAYMOND LAKE, CALIF: No report.

RANCHO SAN RAFAEL POND IN RENO: No report.

RED LAKE, CALIF: Dave Kirby reported that the lake is still iced over but the ice is very thin and water is showing around the edges. He advises not to venture out on the ice.

ROOSEVELT-LANE LAKES, CALIF: Closed.

SACRAMENTO RIVER, CALIF: Kirk Portocarrero of Outdoor Adventures Sport Fishing in Redding (800-670-4448) said: "The water release is 6,000 CFS. Water level is low and clear.

Redding to Anderson: Fishing for rainbow trout is fantastic with 15-30 fish days. Water level is great for drifting.

March and April are great months to produce many nice sized rainbows.

No. 16 PT's and No. 14 & 16 May Fly Nymphs and egg patterns are working well."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Mickey Daniels of Mickey's Big Mack Charters (800-877-1462) said: "The other day, four fishermen caught, tagged and released 8-9 average sized Macks, and they kept about 6-7.

We've been catching our Mackinaw trout early in the morning. I've been tagging and releasing the smaller ones. Currently catching mostly average size fish, with nothing super big.

I'm trolling 250-550 feet deep in the area in front of Carnelian Bay and King's Beach.

We are using silver, Herring Dodger flasher blades with live minnows or large Apex lures."

LAKE TAHOE - North Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "The Mackinaw fishing is good, right now.

We've been trolling at depths of 200-400 feet at Cal-Neva Point and Dollar Point.

We're using a short leader, Dodger flasher blades and live minnows."

LAKE TAHOE - South Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said: "It's best in front of Camp Richardson at 260 feet deep with a short leader, Dodger flasher blades and live minnows.

There is pretty decent Mack action on the Ski Run Mound if you like to jig."

LAKE TAHOE - East Shore:

Gene St. Denis of Blue Ribbon Charters and Tahoe Trophy Trout at South Lake Tahoe, Calif. (530-544-6552) said, "Cave Rock Shelf has been red hot the last four days. We caught a 13, 18, 13 and a 15 pound Mackinaw.

I'm using a short leader, Dodgers and live minnows."

The best areas to fish are at Lockwood, Mustang and Derby Dam. Use stream flies, small spinners or Rapala lures.

WILDHORSE RESERVOIR NEV: Dennis Dunn at the Wild Horse Resort (775) 758-6472 checked in and said, "The weather is beautiful, up here. It's sunny and warm today (50 degrees at 9 .m. on Monday morning).

The ice is completely gone from the reservoir and the fish are biting.

Now is the best time to troll, up here, as the big fish really hit after the ice comes off.

Rob Woolridge of North Fork and his lady friend caught their limits of nice rainbows on Saturday. They were fishing from shore with nightcrawlers by the "Sho-Pai" campground.

The lake is already over 1/3 full and it has more than doubled in size since you were up here in early March.
