Douglas tests for reserve officers

The Douglas County Sheriff's Department will conduct testing for reserve officers at 9 a.m. May 22 at the Douglas County Law Enforcement Building, Minden.

The test is a written examination, oral board review, physical ability testing and a background investigation. Applicants must be at least age 21 to apply.

Reserve deputies augment the sheriff's department personnel and may be assigned to assist in the jail division, patrol division or elsewhere as the need arises.

Washoe Head Start accepts applications

Washoe Tribe Head Start is accepting child applications for Stewart Head Start Program in Carson City.

Applications for the Woodfords and Dresslerville Head Start Programs are also being accepted for the 2004-2005 school year.

Enrollment is open to all families that meet the income guidelines and have children ages 3-5, including those with disabilities and special needs. Head Start is a free developmental preschool program.

Hospital auxiliary installs new officers

The installation luncheon of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Auxiliary will be May 11 at Walley's Hot Springs Resort in Genoa.

Social hour begins at 11 a.m., followed at noon with lunch and a business meeting.

The new president and board of directors for 2004-2005 will be introduced, and the auxiliary member of the year will be announced.

Douglas Jazz Band to play garden center

Greenhouse Garden Center will host the Douglas High School Jazz Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday as part of a friendly competition between the Douglas and Carson High School jazz bands this month.

The Douglas band boosters will serve a brunch for the customers of Greenhouse Garden Center to generate money for various band trips.

A portion of the center's sales for the day will be donated to the jazz band.
