A memorial service for Charlotte Chaix Bacon, 79, a Carson City resident for the past five years, will be at 2 p.m. today at Walton's Chapel of the Valley.

Mrs. Bacon died May 4, 2004, in Reno. She was born Nov. 26, 1924, in Niles, Calif., to Lucien and Isabel Laws Chaix.

Before moving to Carson City, she lived in San Diego, Calif.

Mrs. Bacon was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, being with her family and animals. She was a Presbyterian. She was a sergeant in the U.S. Marines during World War II, and supervised other women Marines.

Among her survivors are her husband of 58 years, Kennet of Carson City; daughter and son-in-law, Kendal and Todd Franklin of Ruston, La.; brother, Donald Chaix of Chiloquin, Ore.; and grandson, Joey Franklin.
