Carson High School shortstop Willie Bowman can call himself an All-American in baseball.

Bowman was one of 35 high school seniors from across the country chosen by Perfect Game to play in SportsLink's All-American baseball game. The game will be played on June 7 in Albuquerque, N.M. and will be televised by Fox Sports Net. The top players from the West will play the top players from the East in the game.

"It's a tremendous honor to be recognized as an All-American by anybody," said Bowman, who has signed with UNLV. "I've worked really hard."

While Bowman has signed with UNLV, he may have a decision to make when the Major League Draft is held. Ironically, the first day of the Major League draft is being held on the same day as the All-American game on June 7. Bowman is projected as possibly being drafted somwhere in the first 10 rounds.

Bowman said he won't be distracted by the draft and said he'll be focused on the game when he plays on June 7. "It will take my mind off the draft," he said.

While Bowman said he's excited to play in the All-American game, his focus is on this week's Northern 4A playoffs. He said he'll focus on the All-American Game once the season is over.

Going into this week's Northern 4A playoffs, Bowman is hitting .440 (48-for-109) with seven home runs, 10 doubles, six triples and 51 RBI.

The All-American recognition is the latest national honor for Bowman, was named as the "Best Pure Hitter" at last summer's Area Code Games, the most prestigious national showcase for top high school players.
