Total wildfires, 1973-2003: 2,220

Total acres burned 1973-2003: 2,245

Principal causes over 30 years:

Campfires: 22% or 495 fires = 16.5 fires per year

Lightning: 21% or 456 fires = 15.2 fires per year

Smoking: 17% or 368 fires = 12.2 fires per year

Wildfires have occurred in every month of the year, with the majority between June and September. Of the 2,220 wildfires in the last 30 years:

303 were in June

540 were in July

662 were in August

351 were in September
