Linkul earns NCAA ticket

Robert Linkul of Carson City and Sacramento State University clinched a ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday with his second-place performance in the men's hammer throw at the West Regionals in Northridge, Calif.

Linkul, a senior at Sacramento State, unloaded a throw of 204 feet, 6 inches at Cal State Northridge to place second behind UCLA's Dan Ames (206-5).

Also at the West Regional on Friday, Nevada's Caira Hane placed fourth in the women's hammer with a mark of 196-5 that broke her own school record.

The top five finishers at the regional meet are assured of berths in the NCAA national meet on June 9-12 in Austin, Texas.
