A funeral for Mildred Kathryn Johnson McWhirter, 71, a Yerington resident, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Freitas Rupracht Funeral Home in Yerington.

Mrs. McWhirter died May 30, 2004, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. She was born Oct. 18, 1932, in Roby, Texas, to Calmer Joseph and Mary Anna Hanzl Johnson.

She was raised in Texas and moved to Nevada in 1954.

Mrs. McWhirter worked for Laurentide Finance, Stebbins & Stebbins Accounting, Sierra Pacific Power and Continental Telephone Company until her retirement in 1992. She was active for many years in Beta Sigma Phi and served as a member of the Lyon County Counting Board. She was a devoted Republican.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Bruce McWhirter.

Among her survivors are her brother, Calmer Johnson of Mountain Home, Idaho; sister, Dorothy Fewel of Wauwatosa, Wis.; daughters Donna Kay Clark and Diane Lyn Smith; son-in-law Daniel Smith; grandchildren John Kacey, Dustin Lee Clark, Kathryn Linnea and Melissa Anne Morton and great-grandson, Tyler Lee Clark, all of Carson City.
