The committment came midway through the summer but Kayla Dunn, one of the state's top power hitters of all-time, made it official Friday, signing a letter of intent to play softball for Georgia Tech.
Dunn, who led the state in home runs and RBIs for the past two seasons, received interest from a whole host of schools, including Oregon, Oregon State, Fresno State, Florida, Purdue, Texas A&M, Colorado State and Washington State, but chose Georgia Tech for its academic program and the campus.
She said she formed a connection with the coaching staff, and felt that she just clicked with them.
Dunn has started at pitcher and first base for the Tigers, but is expected to play shortstop for the Yellow Jackets. She has been playing at short mostly during tournament team play.
She was a first-team all-state and all-conference player last season, and heads into her senior year just six home runs short of the state's career record of 36.
She has 148 career RBIs, eight short of the state record, and has a career .458 batting average (state record is .486). Her slugging percentage over three seasons is .889. Dunn was named the 2003 Offensive
Player of the Year for her 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and .480 batting average in her sophomore season.
Dunn has also been the team captain of the Douglas volleyball team over the past two seasons, and recently was recognized with first-team all-league honors for helping lead the Tigers to a Sierra League title.
