Physicians looking to move up to the Carson Tahoe Regional Medial Center campus may have the option of leasing office space in two planned 40,000-square-foot buildings.

Bryce Stafford, a Hammes Co. development associate, said each building will cost $8.5 million. The two-story, identical office buildings will bookend the new Sierra Surgery & Imaging center on Medical Parkway. He said they have enough demand from physicians to start construction.

"So right now as it stands, the demand expressed from physicians would constitute two buildings," Stafford said. "But showing interest and signing a lease are two different things."

In the next weeks doctors will receive draft leases to review.

He said the Carson-Tahoe Hospital plans to take space in one for the physical therapy unit. Site work will begin before the end of the year. Mitchell said the development company hopes to begin the brick and mortar by March.

"The idea is to have openings concurrently with the hospital, so in December or January of 2006," he said.

Mitchell is also the Carson-Tahoe project manager. Hammes is a health care real estate development and management firm.

Cheri Glockner, marketing lead coordinator for the hospital, said these two buildings will support both the Sierra Surgery center and the regional medical center. The hospital doesn't own these buildings. It has contracted with Hammes.

She said the goal is to attract physicians to the medical campus surrounding the new hospital. Glockner said the hospital administration hopes to have some physician-owned buildings on the campus as part of the regional medical center.

The campus includes the new and expanding Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center and the Cancer Center, set to open in spring 2006.
