Royal Good scored one goal and assisted on another as the Carson boys soccer team kept pace in the race for the Northern 4A playoffs with a 3-0 win at North Valleys on Wednesday.

Carson improved to 5-3 in the Sierra League, keeping a solid hold on at least fourth in league play, which would qualify it for the playoffs.

"It was a good all-around team performance," Carson coach Jason Koop said. "We had a couple of missed opportunities, just a couple open nets we couldn't finish."

Good gave Carson a 1-0 halftime lead on a play that was started on Chris Thorson's throw-in. Zach Weisman then took the ball 18 yards out and sent a pass to the far post where Good scored on a left-footed shot.

The Senators scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half to take control of the game. Good sent a pass to the far post and Mats Boehnke was there to score the goal.

North Valleys was later called for a hands violation in the goal box and Edgar Gomez scored on the penalty kick.

Koop praised the play of his defenders Brian Arce, Thorson, Boehnke and John Villagrana, who recently came up from the junior varsity. Villagrana replaced Loren Wooldridge, who hurt his ankl in the second half.

"I think he'll be fine for Saturday," said Koop, commenting on Wooldridge's status for Saturday's showdown at league leading South Tahoe.

Koop also praised Jason Mather, another player up from the JVs and goalie Bud Kop, who posted the shutout.
