Richard 'Dick' Lyon

A memorial service for Richard "Dick" Lyon, 87, a Gardnerville resident for the past 26 years, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Christ Presbyterian Church in Gardnerville.

Mr. Lyon died Oct. 25, 2004, in Carson City. He was born March 19, 1917, in Lodi, Calif., to Alfred and Mabel Lyon.

He attended schools in Lodi and graduated from Lodi High School.

Mr. Lyon was an aeronautical engineer for Howard Hughes Aircraft for 35 years, during which time he was involved in many projects including the development of the Spruce Goose.

He was most recently honored at the dedication of Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville, Ore. He received many honors throughout his career as a distinguished glider pilot. He was a member of the Christ Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy.

Among his survivors are his sister, Thelma Thornesberry of Lodi and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyon Memorial Fund at Christ Presbyterian Church.
