Starting next summer, Carson City will enforce a three-day-a-week watering schedule June 1 through Oct. 1 for residents.

City officials submitted final approval of new watering restrictions Thursday, allowing exemptions for residents with special circumstances.

People with odd-numbered addresses will be permitted to water their lawns before 10 a.m. and after 6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday and people with even-numbered addresses will be allotted Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, excluding Monday as a day of rest.

New lawns are exempt for 21 days if planted anytime during the irrigation season, June 1 to Oct. 1.

Public Works Operations Manager Tom Hoffert said residents who need to reseed damaged lawns will also be allowed an exemption, and they need to apply through the city's public works division.

Water-free Mondays should allow water storage levels to recover, insuring 4 to 5 million conserved gallons per week, Hoffert said.
