Five Carson High School cadets attended a summer leadership academy at the Naval Air Station in Whidbey Island, Wash.

Leah Taboada, Sarah Stadler, Cody Stokes, Tyler Hughes and Megan Hanke were among more than 140 cadets from 30 different high schools attending the weeklong training.

The training included classes, leadership exercises, physical fitness and military drills. The attendees will be the leaders in their respective units in the fall.

The academy staff selected Stokes to be the commander of troops at the graduation parade. As the commander, he directed the cadets in the conduct of the parade.

This was the second time a Carson High School cadet has been selected for this honor.
