The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld the conviction and life sentence ordered for Anthony Echols in the shooting death of Rick Albrecht in Carson City.
Echols was convicted of the August 2000 shooting at Albrecht's residence. He was sentenced to two consecutive terms of life without the possibility of parole and a concurrent 10 years for burglary.
Echols argued there wasn't enough evidence to support the conviction, but the court said there was ample evidence, including the fact Echols blamed Albrecht for the breakup of his marriage and believed Albrecht was interfering with his relationship with his son. He had also threatened to kill the victim.
He also argued one juror should have been removed because she knew something about the case from reading the newspaper and her daughter was an acquaintance of the victim's sister.
But the court allowed her on the jury after she said she had only vague recollections about the case and thought she could be fair.
