Wooster's Silvano Herrera rattled a shot in off the right post with 35 seconds left to lift the Colts over Douglas 2-1 in Northern 4A Sierra League action at Douglas High School Saturday afternoon.

Colten Mellows scored Douglas' lone goal in the 22nd minute to tie the game at one after Wooster scored early on.

Douglas out-played, out-shot, out-possessed and overall out-worked the Colts throughout the afternoon but had difficulty finishing off a number of fantastic scoring opportunities.

"No one has been able to beat us yet," Douglas co-coach Phil Sheridan said of his team, which has lost three 2-1 games on late goals in the last two weeks. "We keep doing this to ourselves."

The Tigers' best chance to take the lead came in the 73rd minute when midfielder Myles DeLaurentis broke out one-on-one against the Wooster goalkeeper and beat him with a shot to the left only to have the ball just miss the post and sail out.

Douglas' Justin Norvell played an outstanding game defensively, holding Herrera in check throughout before leaving the game injured with less than five minutes to go. Chris Aguilar also made a number of saves in net, the best coming in the 25th minute when he leapt to punch a lob shot just over the cross bar.

Douglas is now 4-3 overall on the season and 2-3 in league play.

Kristin Bartshe and Morgan LeFever each scored two goals and Christina Bradshaw had two assists to lead Douglas over the Colts in league play.

Ashley Mehrer added a late goal on an assist from Savannah Gray.

The Douglas defense of Samantha Perry, Megan Olsen, Alison Pyne, Alicia Sturgess and Rachel Tappen held Wooster without a true shot on the afternoon.

Douglas bounced back from a loss earlier in the week at Reno to beat the Colts, who had previously beat the Huskies this season.
