Richard H. Stearns, 78, a Gardnerville resident for the past four years, died Sept. 28, 2004, in Carson City. He was born March 25, 1926, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Earl and Ruth Thomlinson Stearns.

He graduated from Newport Harbor High School in Newport, Calif., in 1945.

He married Mary Malcom July 3, 1981, in Carson City.

Before moving to Gardnerville, he lived at South Lake Tahoe for 10 years.

Mr. Stearns was an electronics engineer for TRW in Space Park in Redondo Beach, Calif., for 32 years. He enjoyed building miniature trains and was a CB enthusiast. His handle was "Cheese."

He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his son Richard C. in 1996.

Among his survivors are his wife of Gardnerville; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Valerie of Juneau, Alaska; daughter, Eileen Stearns of Campbell River, B.C.; stepson James TenEyck of Carson City; stepsons and wives David and Francine TenEyck of San Jose, Calif., and Daniel and Andrea TenEyck of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Dave of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

At his request, no service will be held.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
