Carson City

Candidates read essays at meeting

The Carson City Republican Women will meet at 11 a.m. April 19 at the Carson Nugget.

Social time is at 11 a.m., and buffet is served at 11:30 a.m. with a special program scheduled for noon. The group will hear from our scholarship candidates from Carson and Dayton high schools.

The three finalists from each school will give a short presentation then the members will vote for their favorites.

In May, the group will award a $1,000 scholarship to each winner - one from Carson and one from Dayton. This is a great opportunity to meet six of the area's promising seniors.

Additionally, Chris Bayer from Court Appointed Special Advocates will give a short presentation about that very important program.

Cost of the luncheon is $15 for both members and guests, which are always welcome.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes meeting on Monday

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Boys & Girls Club of Western Nevada, 673 S. Stewart St., in the gym behind the main clubhouse.

Pull around the back of main building for parking.

Class in Chinese feng shui at WNCC

A class in the ancient Chinese wisdom of feng shui, aligning the household with universal energies, is offered 10 a.m.-5 p.m. April 23 at Western Nevada Community College, 2201 W. College Parkway.

Get your old stuff out in time for Show

The Genoa Antiques and Collectibles Show will be April 16 and 17 at The Sierra Nevada Golf Resort.

Times are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. An appraisal clinic will be featured, and there is no limit to the number of items a customer can bring.

The cost is $5 per item. Admission is $1, and parking is free.

Virginia City

Build prayer beads at workshop

A contemporary prayer bead workshop will be led by Eleanor Wiley, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. April 23 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Virginia City.

Wiley is the author of "A String & a Prayer: How to Make and Use Prayer Beads."

Advance registration $45, includes lunch and beads.

Participants are encouraged to bring important beads and symbols from their life collection to be incorporated into the prayer beads.

The meaningful events in each person's life are considered as beads are chosen to represent "life as it is."

Workshop fees include the cost of basic beads and materials needed to complete personal prayer beads. Tools and equipment will be supplied.

Special beads and symbols will be available for sold.
