Family to Family Connection offers Infant and toddler workshops

Family to Family Connection provides both infant and toddler workshops for parents and their children. Infant workshops are for parents with babies birth to 1 year. All workshops are free and held from 10 a.m-11:30 a.m. They are Thursday, LaLeche League: Breastfeeding Support Group; Thursday, May 10, Infant Massage; Tuesday, May 17, Healthy, Quick & Easy Meals (bring a recipe to share); Thursday, May 19, Infant/Toddler First Aid & CPR; Tuesday, May 24, Tummy Time; Tuesday, May 31, Individual Developmental Assessments (age 4 months and up-call for appt.)

Toddler Time meets every Wednesday, beginning this week. The program recognizes play as the core element of infant toddler curriculum and is based on developmentally appropriate practice for young children. Two sessions are held: the 1-year-old group meets from 9:30-10:30 a.m., the 2-year- old group meets from 11 a.m.-noon. Preregistration is required, and parents must commit to a four-week session. 212 E. Winnie Lane in the Ron Wood Family Center. Call 884-2269.

Youth and family needs meeting May 12

The Community Council on Youth Advisory Board Meeting, which is open to the public, hosts ongoing discussions relating to youth and family needs and resources in Carson City. The meeting is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. May 12 in the Bonanza Room of the Community Center, 851 E. William St. For more information, call Pauline Kizer, executive director of CCOY, at 841-4730.

Third quarter honors announced at St. Teresa

The following students at St. Teresa of Avila received honors third quarter:

First honors - Emily Hogan, Jack Robertson and Michael Samii, all fourth-graders; Kayse Childers. McKenzie Comba, Alyson Christl, Rebecca Doyle, Kaitlin Loomis, April Shonnard, Michael Shonnard, Kristine Torvinen, all fifth graders; and Yvonne Hollett Alexandra Sullivan, both seventh-graders.

Second honors - Emma Beauchamp, Avalon Hope, Kristen Klein, all fourth-graders; Mia Cavilia, Kelsey Hamilton, Karla Hendricksen, Sam Hughes, Sommer Rollenhagen, Kailey Taylor and Jesse Weathers, all fifth-graders; Mitchell Miles, a sixth-grader; Spencer DeBerry, Gabriela Doyle, Kelly Johnson, Molly Seals and Kimberly Mahoney, all seventh-graders; and Ryan Hogan, an eighth-grader.

Mammovan is rolling around Carson City

Thanks to a grant from the Northern Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation, mammograms are available to the uninsured/underserved women of Northern Nevada. Early detection of breast cancer saves lives.

The Mammovan is back in Northern Nevada July 9-29. If a woman is not able to get an appointment this month, there are still openings in June.
