OK, it's not only in the Carson City area that you can have fun this weekend. You can go from Reno to Virginia City and up to Lake Tahoe, depending what you want to see and do.
In Virginia City, you can enjoy a fun day at the Railroad Festival, checking out the Old West with train rides, gunfights in the streets and all types of music. The Comstock Cowboys will play at the Bucket of Blood Saloon. It is free admission, except for the train ride prices listed below.

If you're looking for a beautiful evening at the lake, try the Shakespeare Festival at the amphitheater at Sand Harbor State Park at Lake Tahoe. This year, "Comedy of Errors" and "Macbeth" are featured.
The lake shines with the backlights of the shimmering sun setting prior to the amazing performance of well-seasoned actors. You can pack a nice picnic basket of goodies and some fine wine. Even people who think they don't like Shakespeare change their minds after attending the event.

When: Tuesday through Aug. 21, no shows on Aug. 15. Curtain times: Tuesday-Thursdays 7:30 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 8: p.m.
Where: Sand Harbor State Park, off of Highway 28. Shuttles depart every performance night from 948 Incline Way, Incline Village
Cost: From $14 for children 15 and younger to $67 for reserved seating. Wheelchair and disabled seating available.

This one I could not pass up: "Howl at the Moon" at Galena Creek Park Camp. Doesn't that sound like fun? This is just one of the free campfire programs offered this summer by Washoe County, with different themes each Friday night.
Get your marshmallows ready for a night of fun with singing - or howling in this case.

My last announcement is more of a serious nature, but it is so needed in our community.
Several churches came together recently to help the homeless population. On Saturday at Mills Park, everyone is welcome to check out what is happening to help those in need.
There will also be free immunizations for children; just make sure you bring the child's record card. You can get shoes, clothing of all sizes or everything else that has been collected.
This event has been in the works since June. Thanks to Alan and Elizabeth Dorway of First Presbyterian Church and all the wonderful people at the other churches, they finally brought it into reality.
Special thanks to each of you who helped in making this happen. Many families will benefit from your posting fliers around motels, hotels and homeless shelters.
