Volunteers needed to water seedlings in Lakeview burn area

Volunteers are still needed to help with Waterfall fire re-vegetation projects. People are needed to water the 1,000 Jeffrey pine seedlings planted this spring in Lakeview. 'Town Without Syntax' opens Friday

The Brewery Arts Center presents an original play by Nick Josten, "The Town Without Syntax," at the Donald W. Reynolds Theatre, beginning Friday.

Nick Josten is a junior at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D., and 2002 Carson High School graduate. The show deals with the relationships and conflicts between students, teachers and parents as the students begin speaking out of sentence order. This comedy has many bizarre twists and turns.

Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday and Aug. 18, 19 and 20. Admission is free. Seating is limited, so come early. Call 883-1976 for information.

American Legion hosts Picnic in Park

Reno-Tahoe Blues Fest begins Saturday

Reno's Rancho San Rafael Park will host the inaugural Reno-Tahoe Blues Fest Saturday and Sunday. Among the performers are R&B legends Gladys Knight and Etta James, and Robert Cray, Bobby Womack, Blind Boys, Eddie Cotton, John Mayall, Bobby Rush, Clarence Carter and Sista Monica. The event will be emceed by comedian/entertainer Larry La La. Gates open at noon.

On Saturday, Sista Monica performs at 1 p.m., Mayall at 2:30 p.m.; Cotton at 4 p.m.; Rush at 5:30 p.m.; and Womack at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the Blind Boys of Alabama perform at 1 p.m., Carter at 2:30 p.m.; Cray at 4 p.m.; James at 5:30 p.m.; and Knight at 7 p.m. Two-day passes are $120 to $190, and individual day tickets are $75 to $100. Vocal ensemble teams with jazz band

Bella Voce (women's vocal ensemble) and the Mile High Jazz Band will present a "Building from the Past" concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Barkley Theater in the Oats Park Arts Center in Fallon.

The program will include a mix of jazz tunes by the Mile High Jazz Band, led by pianist David Bugli and featuring vocalist Sheryl Adams, and choral selections by Bella Voce, directed by Jennifer Tibben-Lembke.

Tickets are $15 general admission and $10 for students and seniors.
