CHS Football Boosters slate 11th annual kick-off dinner

The Carson High School Football Boosters' 11th annual kick-off dinner dance is Saturday.

Curry Street will be closed from 5-11 p.m. between William and John streets

Drinks are at 5 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m. The event is hosted by Adele's Restaurant and held in its parking lot. Tickets are $25, which includes dinner, live music by Damage Control, raffle prizes and a silent auction. All proceeds benefit the football program.

The event also includes the induction of former CHS football players and coaches. Inductees are Coach Ed Jessie - started coaching CHS football in '61; Sonny Allen - class of '69; Bob Frank - class of '56; and Rick Redican - class of '63.

Kids Karnival offers games, dunk tank and fun

The Children's Museum is holding the Kid's Karnival from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. There will be lots of games, prizes, a dunk tank and special guests.

Admission is free. Tickets at 25 cents each will be available for the activities. Hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, soda and water will be sold.

Pond club's tour is this weekend

The Northern Nevada Pond Club is sponsoring its eighth Pond Tour Saturday.

Enjoy the beauty and serenity of ponds of all types, from simple to elaborate. See various types of fish, plants, waterfalls, fountains, streams, and landscaping. Visit with pond owners. Exchange ideas about pond construction and water gardening. Discover why the term "kKoi" comes from a Japanese expression meaning "living jewels."

Washoe Valley

Learn the art of Dutch oven cooking

A program on Dutch oven cooking and food sampling will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Washoe Lake State Park. Visitors will help prepare and cook dishes such as chicken broccoli bake, beef enchiladas, onion potatoes, desserts and more. All food and supplies are provided.

The program will be in the main group area. There is no charge for the program; however, there is a $4 per vehicle entry fee for the park. For information or to sign up, call 6877-4319.

Tour Grimes Point with Rock Art Foundation

History and archaeological lovers can view a wealth of archaeological treasures Saturday when the Nevada Rock Art Foundation presents its monthly tour of ancient petroglyphs at Grimes Point.

Alanah Woody co-founded the Nevada Rock Art Foundation in 2001 to preserve, protect, and document the more than 1,000 sites in Nevada and to educate the public and educational communities.
