Singer-composer Greg Brown will be in town Friday, and it's a treat for local fans. He's playing in the outdoor theater behind Adele's Restaurant in Carson City.
Brown's songs are heard all over the airwaves, sung or played by such as Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana, Michael Johnson, Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter.
This is part of a Summer Concert Series at Adele's. Brown will bring his familiar style of bluesy-folk infused with hillbilly and bluegrass outside and under the stars.
The series is produced by Captain LittleTrip in conjunction with the Brewery Arts Center and with continuing support from Carson City Redevelopment Authority. With a festival atmosphere, the site will offer beverages and a beer garden.
The outdoor venue at Adele's contains only 20 rows, so even the last row in the house promises an exceptional view.
There are only 460 tickets at $30 for general and $40 for Gold Circle premium seating. Tickets can be purchased at Adele's, the Cracker Box Restaurant and the Brewery Arts Center in Carson City and Soundwave CDs in Reno or at www.breweryarts.org. For reservations, call 882-3353.
While you're at Adele's, you might ask about the dessert menu. I sampled it last week, and it was more than just awesome.
FILM FEST FOLLOW-UP
The 20 people in the audience at the Brewery last Sunday were a patient bunch, sitting through more than 30 minutes of a malfunctioning DVD projector in an attempt to see "Kiran Over Mongolia," a documentary about a Mongolian youth seeking to become an "eagle master," much in the same way falconry is practiced. Director Joseph Spaid brought a second DVD, which also didn't work. But he stayed and took questions and gave a fascinating account of moviemaking in Mongolia - perhaps more entertaining the film. A rescheduled event will be held at the Brewery.
REWARDING MUSIC
"Joy Song, a Praise Concert" sounds like something a little different than the rock, blues and jazz more commonly heard around town. It's a benefit for the Hospice and Meals on Wheels programs at 7:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday at the Carson City Community Center. Good talent will be on hand, and a $5 donation will help the two programs.
DANCING AT SAND HARBOR
The "Evening with Gershwin" dance performances at Sand Harbor at 7:30 p.m. tonight through Sunday includes some Carson folks: E. Cort Larson, a junior at Carson High School and a first-year company member with the Sierra Nevada Ballet; Alyssa Corda and Jessica Shull, eighth-graders from Carson Middle School; Katie Lauer, a sophomore at Carson High; Carson City resident Peter Rangel; and Alex Biber, who attended Carson High before moving to Reno recently. This will be the first-ever dance performance at the annual festival at Sand Harbor.
