Unemployment rate at 4 percent for November

Nevada's seasonal decline in construction and gaming industry jobs was offset by increased retail hiring in November.

Birgit Baker, director of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation, said state businesses added 1,200 jobs during the month.

The statewide unadjusted unemployment rate was just 4 percent, two-tenths higher than one year ago and up one-tenth of a percent from last month.

The department's estimates showed about 49,000 of the state's 1.2 million workers looking for jobs.

Carson City reported one of the higher unemployment rates for November - 4.5 percent or 1,200 of 27,200 workers out of a job.

That is an increase of three-tenths of a percent since October.

Elko, fueled by the booming mining industry, reported only 900 unemployed out of 23,700 in the workforce - a rate of 3.8 percent.

The Reno area was lowest in the state at 3.7 percent. But Reno's rate was up from 3.4 percent a year ago and 3.5 percent in October.

The area has a total workforce of 213,700 and just 7,900 looking for work.

The Las Vegas rate matched the state rate with 4 percent of the 881,500 in the workforce looking for jobs.
