A memorial service for Carolyn Walton Hughes Opitz, 80, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall.

Mrs. Opitz died December 13, 2005, in Reno following a lengthy illness. She was born July 17, 1925, in Manila, Philippine Islands, to Dr. Frank Alexander and Clara Belle Walton Hughes.

She graduated May1945 from the College of William and Mary, Williamsburg, Va.

She married Lt. Cdr. Paul Fredrick Opitz on June 15, 1945, in Lexington, Ky.

He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1999.

Mrs. Opitz volunteered for clubs including Cub Scouts, Navy Wives, her local church, Lions Club (Lioness Auxiliary), Nevada State Museum docent, Proscenium Players, Brewery Arts Center and the Nevada State Railroad Museum.

Among her survivors are children Frank Alexander Opitz of Little Rock, Ark., Elizabeth Walton Mitchell of Carson City, Sarah Leigh Entwistle of Yerington and Annie Opitz Olsen of Dallas, Texas; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Northern Nevada Chapter, 705 S. Wells Ave. #225 Reno, NV 89502.

Walton Funeral Home in Reno is in charge of arrangements.
